  3. Dry Needling (commonly referred to as Acupuncture)

Dry needling is the use of "acupuncture" needles that are inserted into a person's muscles, ligaments, joint capsule or nerve to reduce pain and restore function.

The biggest advantage of dry needling is that it is a form treatment without causing that much pain to you. It is an amazingly effective treatment technique for all injuries from your head all the way down to your toes.

All our physiotherapists have been trained in dry needling.

  4. Trigger Point Therapy

    What is a Trigger Point?

    • A trigger point (TP) is a section of muscle which has shortened/tightened due to overactivity.
    • TP’s are present throughout the body and may be latent (no symptoms) or active.
    • An active TP causes pain due to the muscle shortening. This may be local or referred pain.
    • The shortened portion of muscle is unable to contract and hence strength is reduced.
    • TP’s present as a palpable lump in a muscle.

    How are Trigger Points Managed?

    Trigger point release via:

    • Massage
    • Dry acupuncture needling (superficial and deep)

    Time taken:

    • 15-20 minutes hands on followed by 10-15 minutes guided stretching.

    Expectations:

    • Some discomfort can be expected to achieve desired results.

Benefits of a Trigger Point Release

    • Muscle lengthening
    • Pain reduction
    • Improved Strength
    • Improved flexibility
    • Injury prevention

    Follow up sessions?

Recommended every 2-6 weeks. (Depending on age, nature of occupation, activity level etc.)
